ISEP member focus: Centre 404 return to their new low energy home

Local charity Centre 404 have recently returned to their newly renovated Camden Road site. The ambitious refurbishment includes new spaces for training, meetings and a new staff kitchenette. As a result of the organisation’s continued growth, the aim was to create additional space to deliver crucial services and include a multitude of sustainable initiatives to incorporate into not only the building itself, but the way in which they operate as an employer and deliver provision for people with learning disabilities. This has seen the installation of a new air source heat pump, solar panels, new roof and wall insulation, bamboo flooring in new rooms/extensions and natural material content for carpet tiles and staircases.

A second key aspect of the project was the renovation and ecological enhancement of the front façade and forecourt of the building. This includes raised flower beds and rain garden to home an abundance of seasonal plants and shrubs, a 1,000-litre waterbutt, a porous resin bound gravel for drainage, improved bicycle storage and plans for an EV charging point. More details are available here.
