Who we are

Tanuja is a longstanding Islington resident who is currently a director of Power Up North London (PUNL), a local community energy group and Treasurer of Community Energy London, a membership organisation that helps support groups in London to share experience, resources and learning, inspires new groups and lobbies government to favour community energy. At PUNL Tanuja project manages the delivery of rooftop solar and renewable heat projects for community sites such as schools, GP practices, community centres and leisure centres. Tanuja has worked in the commercial and non-profit sectors in senior finance and general management roles with Ford, Deloitte, General Electric, Diageo and the BBC.  She also led the International Business Leaders Forum, a charity focused on corporate social responsibility, and was COO of the Start Network, a collective of 40 humanitarian organisations working to improve the speed and effectiveness of international aid response.

Ben is the current ISN Co-chair and an architect and head of sustainability for Islington based architectural practice Bennetts Associates. His focus is mostly on climate change, and particularly measuring, reducing and offsetting carbon emissions in buildings, organisations and personal lifestyles, but also works in other sustainability areas like circular economy, health and wellbeing and social value. Within Bennetts Associates, Ben has produced their science-based climate targets and was also heavily involved in their B Corp certification.

Tim is the Managing Director of Conisbee, Consulting Structural and Civil Engineers and responsible for a large number of education, housing and mixed use projects, both new build and refurbishment.

He also leads project reviews as well as contributing to technical development, sustainability and training.
Tim is a Common Purpose graduate and has undertaken many voluntary posts including sitting on the appraisal panel of the Kings Cross Partnership, membership of design and regeneration organisations, and being an advisor to Islington Council Planning Committee.

He is a current member of the current Design Review Panel, and a Governor of Samuel Rhodes School.
As an former and still part time Islington resident, Tim is passionate about the area and has an extensive knowledge of the Borough and its built environment. He splits his time between Islington and his new permanent home in the Lake District.

Philip was the previous Chair of ISN, and has been a steering group committee member for 8 years.

Philip developed his passion for sustainability and environmental conservation throughout his higher education, and has developed market-leading experience in the low carbon design and operation of buildings. He has also been responsible for developing and implementing environmental policy as well as managing environmental and energy management systems (ISO 14001 and ISO 50001). He is well versed in environmental assessment, such as BREEAM, LEED and Ska and has achieved industry-leading assessment results for a number of developments. 

Ellie has been working within the sustainability sector for a number of years, starting her career at Islington Council’s housing ALMO, before moving to the heritage sector. She arrived back in Islington at City, University of London and is now Head of Sustainability, joining the ISN Steering Committee in 2021. Ellie works across all aspects of sustainability, using the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development as a framework to embed best practice within the University’s education, research, campus and engagement activities. 

Mary-Anne’s role as Senior LEO for Islington Council sees her engaging with businesses and residents across the areas of Bunhill and Clerkenwell to move the council’s community wealth building agenda forward; engaging with businesses and communities and connecting them with council services and local partners and programmes, such as ISN, empowering local people build a greener Islington and help us become a net-zero borough by 2030. 

She has recently managed the council’s Circular Economy Grant Programme, delivering £140,000 in grant monies to 24 local micro and small businesses across Islington who are finding innovative ways to reduce waste by keeping products and materials in use for longer – find out more here: Circular economy grantees | Islington Council

Ariane Ephraïm is the Sustainability Manager at Workspace, a FTSE250 Real Estate Investment Trust specialising in flexible office space in London. Ariane supports the creation and monitoring of the business’ environmental and social strategies at operational level as well as development stage. She oversees all sustainability reporting and ensures strategy delivery by embedding sustainability objectives across various business functions. She runs the occupier engagement program to drive further landlord/occupier collaboration and help achieve ambitious sustainability goals across the portfolio. Ariane also leads Workspace’s community outreach programme to ensure the business has a positive social impact in the London Boroughs where it operates. 

Ariane started her career as a sustainability consultant before joining in-house sustainability teams at real estate investment firms. She holds a BEng and Masters in Energy and Environmental engineering from ECE Paris. Ariane is an active member of the BBP and the BPF as well as a steering committee member of the Islington Sustainability Network.

Alex Winterbotham is CEO of Echobubbles, a virtual world-building and experiences production company committed to hosting ecologically-friendly events in the cloud. Alex’s previous projects span high-profile physical installations, immersive activations and online events using emerging technology (such as XR and 5G). His focus currently lies at the intersection between storytelling, cloud-based computing and immersive technology. Previous roles include Shine TV and Warner Bros. TV.

Andy studied Mathematics at the University of Nottingham then followed it up with an MSc in Sustainable Energy Systems at LSBU. He has since founded the Sustainability Consultancy, Love Design Studio (LDS), and the non-profit organisation, Shade the UK; both based in Islington.

LDS helps design teams, local authorities and developers create sustainable spaces and buildings, including Net-Zero Carbon schools; whereas, ‘Shade the UK’ is a non-profit aiming to raise awareness of issues related to climate change and the vulnerable, influencing change in the built environment and public spaces, focusing on social housing, schools and care homes.

Andy’s work focuses primarily on consulting to achieve low energy buildings and optimising occupant comfort, albeit; a home, an office or a new classroom. LDS is also responsible for delivering energy-auditing services for existing buildings and providing strategic advice to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Angelica is Senior Programme Manager and Climate Lead at Impact Hub King’s Cross, a social enterprise that accelerates entrepreneurial action that benefits people and the planet. They do this through inspiring workspace, business support, and networks – enabling changemakers to thrive in London and beyond.

Prior to this, she completed a MSc in Environment and Development at LSE (London School of Economics and Political Science). She has more than 11 years of experience in sustainable development, entrepreneurship, competitiveness and effective management in the public, private and civil society sectors.
